Table Sizes

Dias seating is never recommended.

Round tables are considered to offer the best opportunity for conversation and service. The sizes of the tables should be determined by the number of people to be seated at each table. Here are guidelines:

  • 5 ft. table for 6–8 people

  • 6 ft. table for 10 people

Tables of two or four are to be avoided as they are too restrictive. Also, they are disastrous if there are “no shows” or if someone arrives late or leaves early.

A single long table, rectangular or oval in shape, can work, though conversation across the table may be restricted because of its width.

Other table configurations include: open rectangle or square, closed square, U-shaped, E-shaped, comb-shaped, and wagon wheel.

A U-shaped table or similar configuration where people are seated on only one side of the table is not conducive to conversation but may be effective and appropriate to the theme of the event. Sometimes entertainment takes place in the area in the middle.
